Quality control in automated systems

Quality control is one of the key issues in automated manufacturing systems. While in manual work processes, the operator instinctively performed visual and tactile checks when handling the part, in automation this step must be consciously replaced with appropriate measurement and sensing solutions.

Quality control may focus on, among other things:

  • morphological and size parameters,
  • color, surface condition,
  • temperature,
  • presence or correct position of components,
  • or any other characteristic that can be detected and measured by sensors.
 

The range of control solutions is wide: from simple touch or presence sensors to 2D/3D optical camera systems and complex special measuring devices (e.g., pressure testing or force measurement).

The selection of the appropriate inspection technology is always determined by the characteristics of the workpiece, the process requirements, and the desired cycle time. We pay particular attention to ensuring that the measurement process is fully aligned with the pace of production—that is, it should not slow down but rather support production efficiency.
